Abstract

                                                            ABSTRACT

Based on the results of the Self-Reflection Survey (SMD) and field observations, the majority of the community in Poncol Village still believes that burning or discarding waste is a part of waste management. However, such practices can lead to environmental pollution and health issues. Furthermore, field observations reveal that Poncol Village is home to the highest number of Islamic boarding schools (Pondok Pesantren) compared to other villages, with these institutions being the largest contributors to waste without proper waste management. Frequency distribution results also indicate a lack of information regarding proper waste management practices. This issue was raised during the Village Community Meeting (MMD). An individual's knowledge of waste management significantly influences their attitudes and behaviors towards public health. Therefore, it is essential to conduct outreach on proper waste management to raise awareness and knowledge among the community, particularly within the Islamic boarding schools of Poncol Village. The outreach activity focused on the importance of proper waste management under the theme of Zero Waste. The target audience for this activity included students in grades X and XI of the Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School in Poncol Village. The outreach was held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 09:00 to 10:00 WIB. The materials covered included the definition of zero waste, its concepts, benefits, and implementation. The event was attended by 9 college students, 54 high school students from grades X and XI, as well as public health officials and nurses from the Poncol Health Center. Throughout the event, all participants actively engaged and showed enthusiasm in listening to the outreach materials. It is hoped that this outreach on waste management will enhance community awareness in Poncol Village, particularly among the Islamic boarding school community, encouraging them to manage and sort waste and to share these practices with others.
